- This new Hi-Definition collection of jazz classics plus the beautiful original title composition by mandolinist extraordinaire Don Julin from Traverse City, Michigan, features some great playing in the swinging setting of his working quartet. Dizzy Gillespie’s “Birks Works,” Miles Davis’ “Blue In Green,” Sonny Rollins’ “Doxy” and Duke Ellington’s “Prelude To A Kiss” are all given new interpretations with Don’s expressive mandolin shadings along with a pair of Thelonious Monk pieces — “Straight, No Chaser” and “Blue Monk.” The recording is excellent, especially in the Hi-Definition format. This Vibe is definitely good!
